Hey
All,
We hope you had a wonderful Holiday and want to wish you and yours
a most healthy and prosperous New Year in 2010. We now want to
announce something we NEVER thought we'd have the opportunity
to say:
We
are proud to announce the return of Ted Wilebski and the re-opening
of...
Wilebski's Blues Saloon!
We've
occasionally seen Ted around town and he always mentioned he was
working on getting the bar back or buying a new bar or promoting
some shows somewhere or...
It
was obvious that Ted wanted back in the game but nothing ever
seemed to come of it. Lately Ted sightings increased and at our
most recent meeting at the Dakota when we backed Sugar Pie DeSanto
the same old talk of clubs familiar or future ended this time
with a request for a business card. "I'll call you"
said Ted and when he did call with the most surprising news that
he was going to reopen the Blues Saloon he also asked for our
help.
Our
normal instinct would be to run away screaming very quickly or
at least to hang back until we saw how things would unfold. Ted
had already lost the club once. He left owing us money and he
also had some wildly convoluted business dealings in the not so
distant past that we were well aware of. Still, this was as close
to Jake and Elwood showing up on your gig to tell you that "we're
putting the band back together" as we may ever experience.
While
this could be the very definition of throwing good money after
bad it could also be the start of something good. If nothing else
we plan to treat our Saturday, January 2, 2010
show at Wilebski's Blues Saloon as a fortuitous
reunion and we hope that everyone who ever passed a good time
with us at the old place chooses to make it up those stairs one
more time.
For
those of you that have either never been to the club or had one
too many before, since or at the old place and forgot how to get
there:
Wilebski's
Blues Saloon
601 N. Western Ave
St. Paul
(651) 331-0929
John,
Robb, Virgil and Curt will pull a few old songs out of the hat.
Virgil will drag up a Leslie cabinet - if not an actual Hammond
organ. Curt is threatening to tell a few stories onstage about
some of the most (in)significant events at the club as well as
bring out the old buzzing black Strat that he played/abused on
most of the shows. We haven't yet heard if Robb plans to wear
the old Cubs jacket or if John chooses to bring the infamous Butanes'
magic drum case (or green suitcase or a clever modern day equivalent.)
By
the way, as of tonight the cover charge was still to be determined.
I'm certain there will be one and I'm guessing it will be around
$7-8. You wouldn't let that stop you now, would ya?
We
hope to see you, and a large number of your close personal friends
at any or all of these events...
