Memphisapolis
CD release party
I joined
the capacity crowd that stuffed the Eagles Lodge in South Minneapolis
last night for the CD Release celebration for “Memphisapolis,”
the new disc from Willie, Curt and the boys -- er, boys & girls.
Backed by the full horn section from the record and flanked by the singers
heard on the disc, Mr. Walker performed two lengthy sets, including
new and vintage material. The set list included a number of selections
from the new album, including “What’s It Take,” “Sweet,”
“My Baby Drives Me Crazy,” and “Cry Cry Cry.”
The
performances were amazingly tight and in synch, given that there had
been no chance for all the players to rehearse together prior to the
show. Copies of the disc were for sale at the show, as Curt’s
wife and daughter (Lolly and Lily) did a brisk business at the merchandise
table. There was still a large crowd in the room at the final note,
with Curtis telling the crowd, “if you want to hear more, buy
the disc!” Truly, a fine, fine night.
