Bob
"Bobo" Bingham later told me he and Lamont Cranston bandleader
Pat Hayes had seen the show. Pat had recently put down the Lamont
Cranston Band and started the Blue Shadows with Bobo, Billy Black,
Jim Novak and Mark Perry. As he watched John Lee he remarked to
Bobo that this was the kind of band he wanted, that he wanted Bobo
to pay attention to how John Lee's band did things as they were
the "real deal," that you couldn't find anybody around
here to play that kind of stuff and blah, blah, blah... Bob let
him go on for a bit until he called Pat an idiot and told him he
should put his glasses on because that was the Butanes
playing up there! Pat took a closer look then asked Bob what the
heck the Butanes were doing up there. Why weren't the Blue Shadows
backing John Lee? What's the deal...who's behind this...blah...blah.
After
Bob laughingly told me this story he added that we sounded OK. High
praise from Mr. Bingham!
